Kendal is well served with both primary and secondary schools, and while it doesn’t have a grammar school, there are several with extremely good academic records. There are also Church of England and Catholic schools available. Because the town is relatively small all the schools are no more than a short bus ride away for your children, so location does not become such an important factor with Kendal houses.
Employment in Kendal or the Kendal area is largely confined to the retail, farming, hospitality and tourism sectors. Having said that, The Lake District being one of the greatest tourist destinations in the UK, tourism is a major industry and there are many hundreds of small and medium size companies looking for staff. If you are willing to retrain there are many prospects. The prospects of part time employment for retired people is very good, as many local companies appreciate the reliability and experience of the older person. Moving to a house in Kendal could not only be a pleasure environmentally but also open up new and exciting work avenues for you.
The cost of living in Kendal is only marginally higher than elsewhere. The town has two new shopping developments, and is well served with large supermarkets. While you won’t get the choice and sophistication of a large city, you will find many of the larger chains have a presence in the town. Add to this the numerous small boutiques and you have a shopping experience that will satisfy most. When you do need to strike further afield Kendal is conveniently close to the M6 motorway and also has a main west coast line rail station for swift access to London and Glasgow.
